The Year I Started Something New
Jan 09, 2024It was this time last year that I remember being filled with so much hope, and equally, so much fear. I started my first crafting business, Valley Basket Co, where I began to introduce my patterns, kits, and materials. That was the exciting part!
The fear I had was about my current career at the time. I had a business in health and wellness. I went to grad school to learn the skills and stacked up a massive student loan. I had built that business for over 9 years. How could I just walk away?
I knew that my passion was no longer in that field and that it was starting to drain me, mentally and physically.
I sat with that fear for 9 months, until I took that giant leap of faith and finally pulled the plug. I closed my practice and stepped fully into the world of crafting.
I had a few cheerleaders from the start. But most people had a very hard time understanding why I would make such a bold move. Especially because it appeared from the outside that I was taking a step down in my career.
I am grateful for those negative comments because it's what fueled me the most.
October I reorganized a bit... I made Valley Basket Co strictly for materials, and started Alicia the Crafter, where I wanted to teach and inspire.
It took off almost immediately, and it's still a bit of a blur! Except this one thing I know for sure... once I surrendered, trusted, stepped into my passion fully, and let go of all fear, I was totally and completely supported.
I look back at my life and can see that I've always been creative and a natural crafter. Why did I waste so much time trying to pursue other careers? Can you relate?
There's more to this story, but I'll save that interesting piece of information for another time.
My intentions for this new career is to always inspire you. Whether that be through my journey of following my passions, to what I craft and share with you.
Whether you take any of my courses or not, or if you buy my materials or not, I am so grateful that you are here with me. Thank you,
Alicia
